Does Your Student Know Enough Bible to Survive College?

Another good Chuck Colson article: “Preparing For College By Reading the Bible.” Thirty-nine English profs at leading universities (Brown, Columbia, Princeton, etc.) were asked if they agree with the statement: “Regardless of a person’s faith, an educated person needs to know about the Bible.” All 39 professors answered “yes.”

The professors commented:

• “The Bible is the foundational text, certainly of the West … We need to know more, and we need to know it better.”

• “Lack of Bible knowledge is almost crippling in students’ ability to be sophisticated readers.”

Despite the above, only 8% of public high schools – that’s just 1 out of 12 — teach the Bible even as literature. Why? Colson’s answer: “Christophobia.”
