One Thing “Fastest-Growing Churches” Have in Common

Outreach Magazine lists the 100 fastest growing U.S. churches.

* First on the list: Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston.

* Other well-known churches on the list: Willow Creek Community (Bill Hybels, S. Barrington, IL), Mars Hill (Mark Driscoll, Seattle, WA), New Life (Ted Haggard, Colorado Springs, CO), Potter’s House (T.D. Jakes, Dallas), Saddleback (Rick Warren, Lake Forest, CA), Second Baptist (Ed Young, Houston), Fellowship Church (Ed Young, Jr., Grapevine, TX).

* Oklahoma churches on the list: Asbury Methodist, Tulsa; Lifechurch, Edmond; Journey Church, Norman.

* Independent Christian Churches on the list: Adventure Christian, Roseville, CA; Central Christian, Henderson, NV; Christ’s Church of the Valley, Peoria, AZ; Central Christian, Mesa, AZ; Crossroads Church, Corona, CA.

* Fellow blogger’s church: Heights Church, Prescott, AZ. (Our fellow blogger, Bud Brown at Altitude, is on the ministry staff at Heights. Congratulations, Bud. And thanks for pointing out this list.)

Other notes: 19 of the 100 churches are in Texas (8 each in California, Florida and Georgia). 27 of them are Southern Baptist. And one thing all of the churches on the list have in common (wait for it, wait for it): they are all very large.
