The Few Good Seats Project

I heard on KLOVE’s news report this morning, that another giant cross was being built near an interstate, that 80,000 people a day (presumably week day commuters) would see it, and that the church that built it was hoping it would be some sort of witness to the public.

I began to wonder: is this some sort of trend? On www.roadsideamerica.com, they list a giant cross, 190 feet tall, built in Groom, Texas. Another was recently built in Effingham, Illinois, 198 feet tall, at a cost of $1.1 million. Therefore, I presume the cost of all three, the one in Groom, Effingham, and the one reported by KLOVE, wherever it was, exceeded $3 million.

This wonderful expenditure of tithed money is such a brilliant and wonderful idea that it seems logical that every member of every church that raised these funds should immediately divert all tithes into a massive construction program so that every member’s home is living in the shadow of their own cross. Also, only in this manner, it seems, can these churches reach every neighborhood in which their own members live.

Eventually, every yard of every Christian home owner would have one towering above the roof line. Everywhere Christians would be mowing and weed whacking around the base of their very own cross. In Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, we would take special precautions so that the crosses would withstand tornadoes and teenagers. Some cities would begin to look like giant representations of Arlington National Cemetery. Some cities, with many ecumenical Christian residents, might have virtual fields of gothic and Byzantine crosses. Okay, so everybody ready, withhold those tithes and offerings until every cross is built!!
